Every once and awhile I like to give my readers a little update on the business and my personal life. To say that this summer has been busy would be the understatement of the century. Of course most of us wedding professionals are busy during the summer, but I guess we like to get the most out of our summers, so we cram in as much in as possible! Here are a few things we have been up to lately:
-In June, we moved into our own little place. It is a quaint 1950's home with a ton of character. And we remembered one of the main reasons we moved here from California...housing costs! As much as we loved our old, tiny apartment with no washer and dryer, we love paying less for more here! And while being 1 mile from the beach was quite nice, we are equally loving a backyard, garden, and the sound of crickets at nighttime!
-We bought a floral cooler. Now, that sounds really easy right? Just buy one and it arrives and we plug it in and everyone is really happy. Well, actually, it arrived on a freight truck, we had to unload a pallet, take it apart, assemble the "box," hire a guy to get it running, rewire the electrical in the detached garage/converted studio, insulate, dry wall...Needless to say, it was PROJECT! But, now all my client's flowers will be blissful in their new 5 x 10 walk in home.
-We have had guests! Lots of them! While we only have a couch bed for guests, that didn't stop them and we were happy. Our first guests happened to come on the first night we moved in our new home. Mikey & Kristin were moving to New York City and on their way, they took the time to come by. It was so quick, but so fun to have breakfast and wish them a great rest of the trip. Then came Morgan and Meghan, scouting Colorado for their move in March (which I am super, super excited about). Then my father-in-law, and brother-in-law for their "man trip." Then James for a night before he flew back to California. Lots of guests! But we wouldn't have it any other way!
-April! April is a Craig's List miracle. When I put an ad on Craig's List last year for some help with weddings, never in a million years did I expect to be so blessed with April. April has been faithfully working with me for a year and I couldn't be more thankful. Not only is she a fabulous floral designer who was trained in Europe and owned her own business, she is really fun to be around. Which I realized is a really important job qualification when you work together in a small studio for hours upon hours. Her faithfulness and attitude have made this summer more fun and way less stressful. Again I say it: Craig's List miracle.
-Trips. We always try to take a weekend or two for trips during the summer. This year, I was able to go for a girls weekend in Palm Springs with some of my best friends. Just a weekend of relaxing and catching up. We also had a real short trip to Orange County for Tex's brother's graduation. And as usual, we have made our fair amount of trips up to our family's ranch outside of Kremmling. It is the most wonderful place in the world to get away, slow down, relax, and have some good old fashioned fun. ATVs, nature, food, fire pits, nature, etc. Here are a few pics from those trips:
All in all, it's been a great summer. Busy, but full of love and life. I love the changing of seasons, so of course I am also looking towards fall...
